To know Thee, Thy noble truths
And Thy clever play of Death
When life is at its fullest swing
Thou slyly creep in, steal the breath!
I seek to know the cause of Death,
The hue, the agony, and the pain!
I seek to know the road thou tread
But all my efforts go invain!
The restlessness grows in me
An urge to know more and more
What made thee choose so humble a soul
Accompany Thee to heavenly shore?
Where did Thee take him beyond my reach?
Why did Thee hide him from my sphere?
O Lord! Mercy the wretched state of mine
I weep, I moan, I cry in despair!
An inner voice sof'ly whispers
"Seek me not, I'm mixt with Nature
Weep no more, for in you I dwell
I'm on Earth and air, in every creature!"
